THE DESIGN PROCESS

Every designer has a different process. Here’s the process we’ll follow on the journey from a blank canvas to beautiful branding:

GETTING STARTED

  • Make contact: it’s as easy as filling out the form on my contact page.

  • Talk: I’ll schedule a call so we can meet and discuss the big picture of your project and its design needs.

  • Agreement: Based on our conversation, I’ll provide a quote or proposal outlining the scope of the design package we’ve decided on.

  • Launch: Once we’ve agreed on the project, it’s time to get started. Typically, a 50% payment is required to move forward, with the remaining balance due at the end of the project.

BRAND RESEARCH

  • Brand assessment: It’s time for a detailed conversation about your brand. During this process, we’ll have another conversation to asses your brand personality and unpack the details of your brand story, key goals and your target audience.

  • Research: Based on our talk, I’ll dig deeper into understanding how your brand history and mission needs to factor into the design process. If you have designs that need updating, I’ll analyze those and assess ways you can improve your branding and stand out from your competitors. I’ll assemble visual references and ideas to define the direction of the design.

  • Design brief: If there isn’t a creative brief provided, we’ll work together to establish creative direction. Having the design direction defined can help bring clarity to your brand and reveal the best ways to communicate your brand to your clients. Once you’ve reviewed and approved the brief, the designing starts!

DESIGN

  • Concepts: Based on the scale of your brand needs, I’ll begin by defining first elements. What does this mean?

    • If your focus is primarily on the logo, I’ll begin with a few logo concepts to give shape to the brand vision you’ve communicated.

    • If your brand needs are more comprehensive, I’ll begin by creating concept themes which will communicate more than simply a logo. A theme will help you get a vision for the design as it functions as part of the whole visual brand identity.

  • Refinement: At this point, the groundwork we’ve laid has hopefully landed us pretty near the mark. This stage is the time for fine tuning designs, colors, and whatever other brand details need adjustment.

  • Assets: Once the brand identity has been clearly established, I’ll create the other brand assets we’ve agreed upon. Depending on the scale of the project, this will include a brand guide that will outline your brand identity and the rules for use of logo, colors and typography. It may also include illustrations, icons, business cards, signage or even t-shirt designs.

WRAPPING UP

  • Finalization: As I prep your brand materials for delivery, I’ll submit the final invoice for the project.

  • Delivery: You’ll receive a download link including all of your design assets for your new brand identity! If you have printed collateral, designs will be delivered to the printer of your choice.

Branding project timelines can vary widely depending on the scale of the project.
